Sri Lankan Scientists Read the Full Genome of SARS-Cov-2 and Identify Four Different Strains of The Virus

A group of scientists from the University of Sri Jayawardenapura has been able to fully decode the genome of the SARS-Cov2 virus. According to a news report by the University the research team headed by Prof. Neelika Malawige from the Centre for Dengue Research at the Allergy, Immunology and Cell Biology Unit has also been able to identify four different strains of the SARS-Cov-2 virus from Covid 19 patients in Sri Lanka. According to the university website this is the first time in which a full genome of a virus has been sequenced in Sri Lanka.
