SLAAS Turns 75!

Sri Lanka Association for the Advancement of Science is
considered as the premier scientific body in the country

One of the most prestigious organizations representing science in Sri Lanka, The Sri Lanka Association for the Advancement of Science celbrates its’ 75th annivesary this year. Founded in 1944 The Sri Lanka Association for the Advancement of Science (SLAAS) is considered as the premier scientific body in the country with membership that numbers over ten thousand, representing almost all disciplines of science. In 1966 the association was incorporated by Act of Parliament No 11 of 1966. Over these 75 years the association has played a tremendous role in popularizing science within many layers of the Sri Lankan society.

According to the current structure the association comprised of three special Committees, eight Sectional Committees, six Statutory Committees & several other committees to carry out a wide range of activities to fulfill the objectives of the Association. All members of council and special, sectional, statutory & other committees serve in an honorary capacity.

Prof. MP. Ashu Marasinghe participated the anniversary function as the chief guest.

A special event to celebrate the 75th anniversary of SLAAS was held on 29th July at the BMICH. A special commemorative first day cover and a stamp were issued to mark the 75th year celebration of SLAAS. And also, the youtube channel of SLAAS too was launched during this ceremony. This channel is to be used as a platform to disseminate scientific knowledge and information to a wider audience in Sri Lanka.
