Two-day Workshop on: Watershed and River Flow Modeling using HEC-HMS and HEC-RAS

Organized by Section C of the Sri Lanka Association for the Advancement of Science (SLAAS), a special Two-day Workshop on: Watershed and River Flow Modeling using HEC-HMS and HEC-RAS will be held at SLAAS Council Chamber, Colombo-7 on 24th and 25th April 2017.

The primary objective of the workshop is to build capacity among scientists and engineers by training them on
modeling of floods in both urban and natural river basins in Sri Lanka. This will be achieved through lectures
and hands-on experience using software developed by the Hydrologic Engineering Center of the United States
Army Corps of Engineers in Davis, California. The training will also be useful for simulating river flows during
extended wet and dry periods.

Expected Outcome

Capacity Building: This short course is expected train 30-40 engineers and scientists to use standard
hydrologic and hydraulic models for predicting floods in river basins. This will help apply concepts students
learned in universities to use modeling for flood forecasting and prediction. The software will be provided to
students that they can use after the workshop.
