Training Workshop on DNA Sequencing

Kandy Chapter of the Sri Lankan Society for Microbiology is organizing a training work shop on DNA sequencing of bacteria and viruses, to enable early carrier researchers/post graduate students to analyze their DNA sequencing data themselves.
WORKSHOP CONTENT:
Introduction to DNA sequencing
- Brief overview of DNA and gene structure
Practical Session I
- PCR – amplifying the fragment that will subsequently be sequenced
- Purification of PCR products
- Assessing the purified PCR products
Practical Session II
- Detailed analysis of sequences
- Sequencing errors and base qualities
- Sequence analysis using different tools
- BLAST services
Practical session III
- Multi Locus Sequence Typing (MLST)
- e-Burst
Practical Session IV
- Alignments of sequences
- Phylogenetic trees
- Protein sequence and structure
