Sri Lanka Ranked 109th in Environmental Performance Index 2020

On June 4th 2020 researchers from Yale and Columbia universities released the Environmental Performance Index for the year 2020. The index rank 180 countries on 32 performance indicators across 11 issue categories covering environmental health and ecosystem vitality and considered as the premier metrics framework for global environmental policy analysis. According to the data published Sri Lanka is ranked 109th out of 180 countries in the EPI 2020. Overall EPI score for Sri Lanka is 39 out of 100 which shows how bad our performances were in environmental health and ecosystem vitality issues.

A group of research scientists led by Prof. Chandana Udawatte from Sabaragamuwa University, has developed a novel method of producing Titanium Dioxide (TiO2) using locally available Ilmenite from mineral sand reserves in Pulmudai. Dengue Virus Gives False Positive Results in COVID 19 Antibody Tests, Research Shows

In a recent research carried out in India, five of thirteen Dengue positive serum samples taken in 2017 have given positive results for the COVID 19 rapid antibody tests. The research was carried out by a group of scientists in Infectious Diseases and Immunology Division, CSIR- Indian Institute of Chemical Biology, Kolkata with the participation of few other research institutes.

Phase 3 Clinical trial of Oxford COVID-19 Vaccine Starts in Brazil

Researchers from the Oxford University have began the phase 3 clinical trial of their COVID 19 vaccine in Brazil, the University announced yesterday(29th June 2020). On June 2nd the Brazilian Health Regulatory Agency (ANVISA) granted their permission to carry out Vaccine trials in Brazil, which is one of the hardest hit countries by the ongoing COVID 19 pandemic.
