1st International Conference on Mycology and Plant Pathology Successfully Concludes in Batticaloa.

The Sri Lanka Association for Mycology and Plant Pathology (SLAMPP) proudly hosted its 1st International Conference on Mycology and Plant Pathology at the Riviera Hotel in Batticaloa, marking a significant milestone in the country’s scientific landscape. The event brought together a diverse group of local and international researchers, academics, and industry professionals to share the latest developments in fungal biology and plant disease management. The conference was graced by Professor Jayantha Lal Ratnasekera, Governor of the Eastern Province, who served as the Chief Guest and also delivered the keynote address. Esteemed scholars, including Prof. J. Kennedy, Prof. N. K. B. Adhikaram, and many other distinguished guests, contributed to the event, elevating its academic value and global relevance.

A highlight of the day was a virtual address by Prof. Paul W. J. Taylor from the University of Melbourne, who shared international insights into plant pathology research and innovation.

Throughout the day, participants engaged in dynamic presentations and discussions on crucial topics, including:

  • Diversity of plant pathogens and emerging plant diseases
  • Advances in fungal biotechnology
  • Microbial technologies for sustainable agriculture
  • Innovative approaches in fungal research

The event also showcased research abstracts from emerging Sri Lankan scientists and international contributors, promoting knowledge exchange and scientific networking.

A moment of honor was reserved for Prof. N. K. B. Adhikaram, who received a special award in recognition of his lifelong contributions to mycology and plant pathology. Additionally, Prof. Dhanushka Udayanga, Editor of the SLAMPP, along with Prof. Adhikaram, was presented with the magazine’s latest issue during the ceremony.

This successful conference was the result of the dedication and hard work of the organizing committee, led by SLAMPP Chairman Prof. Chandra Mahendranathan, Secretary Prof. Chandrika Dissanayake, Editor Prof. Dhanushka Udayanga, Prof. Priyanga Wijesinghe, and Prof. P. N. Athukorala, along with many other contributors.
