Science Journalism Forum 2021 Now Underway

SJF 2021

Organized with the aim of sharing new ideas and thoughts in science journalism among science journalists, writers, publishers, scientists, students, and academia, the Science Journalism Forum 2021 is now underway as a virtual event. During this three-day event science journalists with a huge range of other resource personnel will share their knowledge with the aim of upgrading the skills of journalists all over the world with a focus on developing countries.

Today the forum started with a discussion panel on the topic “Should Journalism Be Taught to Students in School?” with the participation of Saffron Howden, Abeer AlNajjar, Radwa Abdul Latif, Samya Ayish as speakers. In this panel they shared information of various steps that have been taken in different regions of the world to push school children towards Science Journalism and discussed the available barriers in doing so.

The Agenda of the SJF 2021 is full of such discussions, talks and lectures where science journalists from around the globe can take this opportunity to empower themselves with new tools that help them communicate, network, and learn from their peers all over the world.

Mr. Nalaka Gunawardena, who is a well known Sri Lankan Science Writer, Tech Watcher & Media Analyst takes part in this forum as an advisor and Mr. Sisira Kumara, the founding president of Sri Lanka Association of Science Communicators, and an Editor of The Sri Lankan Scientist Magazine  will take part in one of the panel discussions with the topic “Context COVID-19: Role Of Science Journalism In Realising Vaccine Equity In South Asia” with Chhatra Karki, Archita Bhatta, Subhra Priyadarshini, Sisira Kumara, Muhammad Suhail Yusuf representing other South Asian Countries.
