With the entire world is looking forward to a successful vaccine against the deadly COVID 19 Pandemic two countries who are well ahead in the vaccine production race will begin the general usage of COVID 19 vaccines this month. The two countries UK and Russia are two of the frontline countries that are working on a vaccine against COVID 19.
Yesterday on 2nd of December 2020 UK government authorized Pfizer/BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine for general use.
A government spokesperson from Department of Health and Social care in a press release says,
“The government has today accepted the recommendation from the independent Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) to approve Pfizer/BioNTech’s COVID-19 vaccine for use. This follows months of rigorous clinical trials and a thorough analysis of the data by experts at the MHRA who have concluded that the vaccine has met its strict standards of safety, quality and effectiveness.
The Joint Committee on Vaccinations and Immunisations (JCVI) will shortly publish its final advice for the priority groups to receive the vaccine, including care home residents, health and care staff, the elderly and the clinically extremely vulnerable.”
“The vaccine will be made available across the UK from next week. The NHS has decades of experience in delivering large-scale vaccination programmes and will begin putting their extensive preparations into action to provide care and support to all those eligible for vaccination.”
This Vaccine delivers an mRNA which will produce SARS nCoV 2 viral proteins inside human cells, and these viral protein particles will serve as antigens that trigger antibody response against this protein.
Hours after this announcement another special announcement came from Russian President Vladimir Putin ordering mass immunization against COVID-19 with their SPUTNIK V vaccine developed by The Gamaleya National Center of Epidemiology and Microbiology. The vaccine is still under the phase III clinical trials and according to the Russian government it shows over 95% efficacy rate.
Many around the world will keep a close eye on these two vaccines as the world coming back to the normalcy is totally dependent on the success of these vaccines.
