The Sri Lanka Inventors Commission(SLIC) is the main organization in Sri Lanka that facilitate converting ideas in to practical applications. It was established by the provision of the Sri Lanka Inventors Incentive Act No.53 of 1979,and functioning under the Ministry of Science,Technology and research.
The objective of the commission is to promote and encourage creativity and inventiveness of Sri Lanka by providing technical,legal,financial assistance and assistance to find access to market. Achieving its objectives the commission has taken many measures where giving national recognition for inventors is one of them.
In encouraging inventions and innovations in Sri Lanka, one of the main events organized by SLIC is the Sahasak Nimawum international exhibition which gives inventors from all around the world a highly competitive stage to showcase their new inventions.
Sahasak Nimawum exhibition accpets new inventions under following 14 categories,

- F 04 – Traditional Medicine
- F 05 – Agriculture
- F 06 – Food Technology
- F 07 – Chemistry
- F 08 – Applied Sciences and Technology
- F 09 – Energy
- F 10 – Environmental Conservation
- F 11 – Engineering
- F 12 – Information and Communication Technology
- F 13 – Transportation
- F 14 – Public Works and Infrastructure Engineering
Year 2020 a challenge for Sahasak Nimawum?
With the prevailing situation around the country due to the COVID 19 threat the Sri Lanka Inventors Commission has decided to hold this years Sahasak Nimawum international exhibition as an online competition, making it’s easier for competitors to present their inventions from where ever they are in the world.
According to Prof. Rangika Halwathura, Commissioner of Sri Lanka Inventors Commission, they are yet to decide on how local inventors can take part in this years exhibition. The commission will take a decision only after a careful assessment of the current situation in the country.

The deadline for registration is 30th June 2020. The competition and the announcement of winners of the respective categories is scheduled for 31st June 2020. And Medals & Certificates of the Winners will be Couriered on August 3rd 2020.
