Organized by the World Federation of Science Journalists (WFSJ), the World Conference of Science Journalists is a biannual event where science journalists and Science writers from all around the world and aims to provide the networking, training, professional development and exposure to world-class science and technology essential to equip and sustain a worldwide community, ensuring that news about science is intelligently conveyed to a global public no matter what barriers of culture, language, education, and politics stand in the way.
This year the 11th edition of the conference is to be held at Swiss city of Lausanne from 1st of July 2019 to 6th July 2019 under the theme “Reaching New Heights in Science Journalism”. This year around 1200 journalists and Science experts are expected to participate the event representing over 60 countries.
With a range of interesting activities, field trips, lectures, talks and exhibitions this conference will give participants the opportunity to explore new frontiers in science and to communicate those latest knowledge to the communities they represent.
This year 100 science journalists from all around the world were awarded fellowships to attend this conference. The Sri Lankan Scientist magazine is happy to announce that Mr. Dilip Fernando and Mr. Sisira Kumara from the Sri Lankan Scientist editorial team are among the selected fellows and will be attending the conference representing Sri Lanka.

Mr. Nalaka Gunawardena one of the veteran science journalists in Sri Lanka too will participate the conference as a resource person and will chair a session themed “Hope or Hype: The skeptic’s guide to reporting on innovation”.
