The Institute of Biochemistry, Molecular Biology and Biotechnology (IBMBB) of the University of Colombo on last Friday(26th October) hosted their open day for the year 2018.
The information booths, poster presentations and open laboratory tours, which saw an influx of students from universities in Sri Lanka, were all in line in this open day program.
Various laboratories within the institute were open for public and scientists educated visiting students and others on projects and research work related to various sectors of molecular biology.
When The Sri Lankan Scientist team visited the Open Day activities, students from the science faculties of University of Colombo and Kelaniya University , were seen interacting with scientists from the various departments, who gave demonstrations, pamphlets and explanations for the various research work that were being carried out at the institute.
Dr. Sameer R. Samarakoon, a Scientist and a Lecturer of the IBMBB, explained that the purpose of the open day was to give the young people an opportunity to learn about the institute, its’ research work, different Training Courses, Masters, MPhil and PhD degree programs . He stated that it was also to educate the youth on the various career paths and job opportunities available to them within the molecular biology sector.
