Centre for Advanced Materials and Devices (CAMD) established in the department of chemistry, Faculty of Science of University of Colombo was declared open by Vice Chancellor Prof. Lakshman Dissanayake during a ceremony on 23rd August 2018.
Prof K.M. Nalin de Silva speaking during the event emphasized the importance of this initiative, according to him this lab will house all the instruments acquired through an NRC mega grant (Rs. 50 million) including a state of the art XRay Diffractometer and a microwave plasma emission spectrometer. The electrospin apparatus donated by University College London (School of Pharmacy ) has already been installed. In addition this lab will also have other minor instruments. This lab has a 20 kVA generator, a UPS system, finger print access and also a CCTV system to monitor the lab remotely. Any researcher who is interested in using these facilities can contact Prof. Nalin de Silva or Prof. Rohini M. de Silva for further information. This lab is now open for any productive collaboration within the university or outside including industry.
Pro. Lakshman Dissanayake, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Colombo, also addressed the gathering and talked about the value this facility going to add to the research on advanced materials. Dean of the Faculty of Science, Prof. Ranjith Mahanama, the head of the Department of Chemistry, Prof. Ramanee Wijesekera and other members of the staff, and other invited guests were also present at the event.
