“Solar Asia 2018”, the 4 th International Research Conference on Solar Energy Materials, Solar
Cells and Solar Energy Applications organized by the National Institute of Fundamental Studies,
Kandy will be held from 4 th to 6 th January 2018 at Hotel Oak Ray.
Solar energy is expected to be a major supplementary power source in the very near future
especially in tropical countries, like Sri Lanka. Research on solar energy materials and solar cells
is a fast growing interdisciplinary research area in science and technology today. During the past
many years, physicists, chemists, material scientists, engineers and industry personnel have
focused their attention to develop novel materials for highly efficient and low cost solar cells and
photovoltaic devices. Scientists and technologists in Asian countries continue to make notable
contributions to these developments. In fact, Sri Lanka ranks among the top 10 nations with
regard to research publications on dye sensitized solar cells. The Solar-Asia 2018 conference will
provide a forum for researchers from Asia and other countries to present their research, to find
out latest developments in specific areas and to network with experts in the field.
There will be about 100 research scientists and technologists from 10 countries making their
deliberations at the three-day conference, which will be inaugurated by Hon. Susil
Premajayantha, Minister of Science, Technology and Research on Thursday, January 4 th at Hotel
Oak Ray. Many internationally renowned senior and young researchers and academics will be
making invited and contributed presentations at this conference.
The three day workshopconference has been organized by a committee comprising Prof.
Lakshman Dissanayake (Chairman), Prof. Rohan Senadeera (Secretary), Prof. G.R.A. Kumara,
Dr. Athula Wijayasinghe, Dr. Buddhika Dassanayake, Dr. Kumari Thilakaratne and Mr.
Chathuranga Thotawattage.
