Annual Symposium on Minor Export Crops (ASMEC) 2017 Held in Kandy

Annual Symposium on Minor Export Crops (ASMEC) and Agricultural Exhibition – 2017 was held at Plant Genetic Resources Centre Gannoruwa, Peradeniya on 16th and 17th of March. The symposium was organized for the 4th time by the department of export agriculture under the ministry of primary industries.

This year the symposium was organized under the theme “Export Agricultural Crops for Green World”, After the inaugural session on 16th scientists from the department presented their research work to a panel of experts and the audience.

The inaugural session of the two day symposium was held at the PGRC auditorium under the patronage of Minister of Primary Industries, Hon. Daya Gamage. Director general of the department of export agriculture,  Dr. M.A.P.K. Senevirathna, Prof. Budhdhi Marambe from the Faculty of Agriculture, University of Peradeniya and Mr. Bandula  Wickramarachchi, Secretary, Ministry of Primary Industries were present at the occasion.

The keynote speech was delivered by Prof. Hundal, Professor in Agricultural meteorology of Punjab Agricultural University in India, In his speech Prof. Hundal talked about Climate change and it’s importance in sustainable agriculture.

An exhibition featuring several government institutes, private organizations and companies was also held parallel to the symposium.
