The National Conference on Insect Vector Biology -2016 Concludes in Jaffna

The National Conference on Vector Biology 2016 organized by Department of Zoology, faculty of Science of the university of Jaffna was held on 10th February 2017 at University of Jaffna. The event was sponsored by Avon Pharmo Chem and titled “Emerging Challenges in Controlling Insect Vector-borne Diseases in Sri Lanka”.

Dr. T. Eswaramohan delivered the Welcome speech and it was followed by the address of the Dean, Faculty of Science.
The key note addresses were delivered by Snr. Prof. SHPP Karunaratne and Prof.Vasanthy Thevanesam.

During the technical sessions researchers presented their work on vector borne diseases. The final Key note address was given by Prof.Nissanka de Silva which followed by the panel discussion.

After the panel discussion, a new society called Vector Biology Society was inaugurated with the appointments of office bearers. Dr Gajapathy presented the draft constitution and would be confirmed in near future.

There was a participation and presentations from Universities of Ruhuna, Peradeniya, Sri Jayawardenapura, Colombo, Jaffna and National Institute of Fundamental Studies

Speaking to the gathering, Prof Thevanesam invited all who are interested in microbiology to join the Association for Microbiology as active members.
