The disease is frequently mis-or under-diagnosed in the region. The 2nd South Asian Melioidosis Congress will allow researchers and clinical personnel meet and learn from global experts on the disease and develop collaborations within and between countries in the region and groups overseas with the ultimate goal of reducing the morbidity and mortality of this potentially fatal infection. \n

Due to the pioneer work done for patients with Chronic Kidney disease he was awarded as Most Innovative Outstation Physician in year 2013. \n  \nProf. Meththika Vithanage  – Prof. Vithanage is a senior Research Fellow at the National Institute of Fundamental Studies\, Kandy\, Adjunct Associate Research Professor at the University of Southern Queensland\, Australia and a TWAS young affiliate fellow. Her research is focused on soil and water. She has contributed to more than 80 journal articles and 20 book chapters. She is the winner of TWAS-NSF Award (2016) for the best young scientists and SUSRED award (2016) for research supervision. \n  \nDr. Dilantha Dharmagunewardene  – Dr. Dharmagunewardene is the Director\, training at Education\, Training and Research Unit of Ministry of Health. He is an alumni of Colombo Medical Faculty. He completed M.Sc. (Medical Administration) in 2007. DESCRIPTION:Organized by Section C of the Sri Lanka Association for the Advancement of Science (SLAAS)\, a special Two-day Workshop on: Watershed and River Flow Modeling using HEC-HMS and HEC-RAS will be held at SLAAS Council Chamber\, Colombo-7 on 24th and 25th April 2017. \nThe primary objective of the workshop is to build capacity among scientists and engineers by training them on\nmodeling of floods in both urban and natural river basins in Sri Lanka. This will be achieved through lectures\nand hands-on experience using software developed by the Hydrologic Engineering Center of the United States\nArmy Corps of Engineers in Davis\, California. The training will also be useful for simulating river flows during\nextended wet and dry periods. \nExpected Outcome \nCapacity Building: This short course is expected train 30-40 engineers and scientists to use standard\nhydrologic and hydraulic models for predicting floods in river basins. SUMMARY:5th Asian Primate Symposium
DESCRIPTION:Elucidation of the Evolutionary History and Conservation of Asian Primates by the Construction of an International Consortium \nThis symposium will provide a platform to exchange knowledge concerning primates\, introduce newly developed methodologies of study and their applications\, and construct an interdisciplinary framework of research and conservation activity between senior researchers and young field workers from East\, South East and South Asia. For the purpose of promoting research and conservation activities\, not only local but cross-border\, efforts should be made to create a framework linking interested people of all levels within their countries and globally. It is indispensable to construct a cooperative framework between researchers for sharing research facilities\, data and sample banks. This can also be realized through the educational system via international lecturers and supervision of research by establishing a consortium of universities and institutions\, dedicated to a common goal.
