SUMMARY:1st Annual International Conference on Veterinary & Animal Sciences
DESCRIPTION:1st Annual International Conference on Veterinary & Animal Sciences will be held during 15 – 16 December 2015 in Colombo\, Sri Lanka under the theme of “Livestock for Sustainable Livelihood Improvement” \nSustainable development emphasizes a holistic\, equitable and far-sighted approach to decision-making at all levels. It emphasizes not just strong economic performance but intra-generational and inter-generational equity. Most of the rural and sub-rural community of the globe depends majorly on livestock for their livelihoods as it provides fuel\, food\, manure and income. Apart from extensive work carried out on various aspects of livestock promotion\, ‘livestock as a means of livelihood’ is still a neglected area. Directional approach of the governments\, researchers and all stake-holders towards enhancement of livestock production systems is the only pathway towards sustainable agriculture and livestock. \nDates of Importance\n\n\n\nAbstract submission deadline:\n15 October 2015\n\n\nAbstract acceptance notification:\nWithin two weeks\n\n\nEarly Bird Registration deadline:\n30 September 2015\n\n\n2nd Registration deadline:\n30 October 2015\n\n\nConference registration final deadline for presenters:\n15 November 2015\n\n\nPP Presentation due on or before\n30 November 2015\n\n\nICVAS 2015\n15-16 December 2015\n\n\nCultural Show and Networking Dinner :\n15 December 2015\n\n\nPost Conference tour :\n17 December 2015\n\n\nFull paper submission deadline\n04 January 2016

SUMMARY:International Conference of Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka 2015 - ICSUSL 2015
DESCRIPTION:Theme – “Challanges Beyond Food Security”\n  \nFeeding ever increasing world population to satiety has become the most daunting task of the century in the aftermath of ever increasing demand for food\, shrinking the extent of arable lands\, decreasing potential food production from natural resources\, global warming\, pollution\, and consequences of human interventions. Hence\, food security is of prime concern in most part of the globe for centuries. \nIn the process of achieving food security\, overwhelming evidences of food borne illnesses and hazards accumulate\, raising the unanswered question “Are we consuming safe food?” Ever since these occurrences of food borne illnesses surfaced\, attention of the scientific community is evenly\, if not more\, focused on food safety than food security. Understanding the significance of both of them in the context of “Providing safe food for everybody” the theme of the conference surfaced as “Challenges beyond food security”. \nThis conference is therefore focused on one of the most attended areas of the research arena both at national and international context. Researchers\, practitioners\, policymakers and all other interested personnel around the world are invited to share their findings\, knowledge and expertise under this theme. \n  \nThematic Areas\n\nFood safety challenges\nFood \, environment and public health\nBiodiversity and ecosystem services for food base\nPost harvest handling and food preservation\nQuality standard and food management systems\nNutrition and food security\nFood production\, distribution\, accessibility and utilization\nAgricultural systems and genetic diversity to underpin food security\nClimate change and food systems\nFood culture\, social values and mass media\nPolicy direction for food security and safety\nGeo-Spatial applications for food and agriculture\nValue addition\, innovations and sustainable food marketing\n\n  \nImportant Dates\nAbstract Submission Deadline – 30th June 2015 \nAnnouncement of Abstract Acceptance – 31st August 2015 \nEarly Bird Registration Deadline – 31st October 2015 \nConference – 19th & 20th November 2015

SUMMARY:First International Conference on Natural Products Genomics and Drug Discovery
DESCRIPTION:First International Conference on Natural Products Genomics and Drug Discovery\n“Herbal Products and Nutraceuticals in the\nPrevention and Treatment of Disease”\n22 – 24 July 2015\, Galadari Hotel\, Colombo\, Sri Lanka \n\nThe focus of this conference is to increase awareness on the many ways that natural products have impacted modern medicine and discuss their potential contribution to future drug discovery around the world.\n \nThematic areas of the conference are: \n\n\n\n\nNatural Products\nFood as Medicine in Prevention and Treatment of Diseases\nNatural Products Genomics\nDrug Discovery\n\n\n\n\nIt is said that if mother-nature gives us the disease\, mother-nature also provides the cure to these diseases. By the 19th century\, the source of all drugs sold in drug stores in Europe and North America was natural products. These drug stores eventually developed into larger pharmaceutical companies. According to some estimates\, as much as 80% of the drugs used even today\, have their roots in natural products. Examples include statins for heart\, metformin for diabetes\, steroids for inflammation\, asprin for pain and chemotherapeutic agents such as paclitaxel\, camptothecin\, vinblastin\, vincristine\, thalidomide. In fact\, of the 121 prescription drugs in use today for cancer treatment\, 90 are derived from plants. \nA rich assortment of medicinal plants has been the foundation of Sri Lanka’s indigenous ayurvedic system of healing. The word “Ayurveda” comes from Sanskrit meaning “knowledge about life” or knowledge which shows us how to maintain good health and how to cure illnesses. Many of the ancient kings have dedicated their services to the development of ayurveda medicine in Sri Lanka such as King Pandukabhaya (4th Century BC)\, King Buddhadasa (362-409 AD)\, King Datusena (460-478 AD) (Mahavamsa and Chulavamsa). Therefore Sri Lanka\, known also for its natural beauty\, becomes a leading choice as venue to host a conference focusing on natural products. The focus of this conference is not only to discuss the different ways natural products have impacted modern medicine\, but also to discuss the potentially many ways they can contribute towards future drug discovery around the world.\n \n \nThis conference is organized by the International Society for Natural Products Genomics and Drug Discovery.\n
